A college football term
A college football foul for forcible contact to an opponent's head or neck, or for leading with the crown of the helmet. It carries 15 yards and ejection, and every call is reviewed.
Ejection is what makes it different from any NFL penalty. A player called for targeting is out of the game.
A targeting foul in the second half carries into the first half of the next game, which is why a bowl-game ejection can cost a player time the following season.
Because the consequence is severe, every call is reviewed by replay and can be overturned, which is the source of long stoppages.
You’ll hear it like this
He was ejected for targeting in the third quarter and will sit the first half next week.
