Tush push

An NFL term

A short-yardage quarterback sneak with teammates pushing him forward. It is legal and has stayed legal: a proposed ban fell short in 2025 and no team proposed one the following offseason.

Pushing a ball carrier used to be illegal. That rule was removed in 2005, which is what makes the play possible.

The 2025 vote to ban it drew 22 of 32 owners, short of the 24 required to change the rulebook. The debate has quieted since.

Teams argue about it because one club runs it far better than everyone else, which turns a rules question into a competitive one.

You’ll hear it like this

They went for it on fourth and inches and ran the tush push, as everyone in the stadium expected.
