Two things decide your Cleveland game day. First, the lots next to the stadium are passholder-only, and the stadium says that without a pass you won't be permitted to park and will be sent offsite, so the question is which offsite option you pick. Second, the Muni Lot, the legendary tailgate at the Burke Lakefront Airport lot, is no longer the cheap option it used to be: Cleveland City Council raised the rate, and there are no in-and-out privileges. Several guides still call it free or quote the old price. It isn't free. Meanwhile the downtown garages a short walk away can cost a quarter of it, which is the tradeoff this page is really about: are you here for the tailgate, or for the game.

The Burke Lakefront Airport lot, universally called the Muni Lot, is the most famous tailgate in the league and the city runs it. For a typical 1 p.m. Sunday it opens at 5 a.m., which isn't a typo and is treated as part of the day rather than an inconvenience.
Heads up: Two things the reputation doesn't prepare you for. The city's own rules state that "Open containers, consumption of alcohol, and public intoxication are all prohibited inside the Muni Lot", whatever you have seen in photographs. And "You'll be charged for all spaces that you occupy", so a tailgate setup spilling into a second space is a second $40.

The Gateway garages by the downtown sports district come in far below everything nearer the water. If your priority is the game rather than the lot scene, this is the value play, and it puts you next to the East 4th Street and Warehouse District bars for afterward.
Heads up: Price range comes from an independent Browns guide rather than an official source, and downtown rates move with what else is happening that day. Many downtown Cleveland lots also run cash only, so don't assume a card reader.

Cleveland has plenty of downtown supply and the stadium itself points fans without passes here. To reach them, use the I-90 exits at Ontario (171), East 9th (172A), Prospect (173A) or Superior (173C), because the closer Shoreway exits get shut.

For everyone else, the constraint is road closures rather than lot capacity. Rolling closures can start as early as three hours before kickoff, and the West 3rd and East 9th exits off Route 2, the Shoreway, both close. Come in on I-90 instead and use the Ontario, East 9th, Prospect or Superior exits.
Getting out after
Plan this before you arrive, because Cleveland restricts stadium access for at least an hour after the game ends. That affects anyone being picked up, and it is the single most useful thing to tell whoever is collecting you. The Muni Lot closes two hours after the game, and remember it has no in-and-out, so there is no leaving and returning. If you took the Waterfront Line, none of this applies to you.
Tailgating rules
