Pittsburgh Regional Transit runs a Free Fare Zone that stretches from the North Shore to First Avenue Station and covers every station in between, funded in part by the Stadium Authority and the company that runs the North Shore lots. So you can park in a downtown garage for roughly $15 to $25, ride the train across the river for nothing, and walk out at Allegheny or North Side station beside the stadium, while people who parked on the North Shore paid $40 to $60. Getting out after
The advantage of the downtown approach shows up here. Everyone who parked on the North Shore funnels onto the same handful of bridges and ramps at once, while the T and the pedestrian bridges keep moving. If you did park at the stadium, the usual choice applies: leave a bit early, or wait it out somewhere on the North Shore until the ramps clear.
Tailgating rules
Alco accepts moderate and responsible tailgating in its North Shore surface lots, which is where the Steelers tailgate happens. Garages are a different story: no tailgating is permitted inside the Champions Garage.
